Mildred's friend, Mrs. Ascott, is a clairvoyant. When she holds a meeting at Mildred's cabin, Qwill asks about Clem. Mrs. Ascot then tells him that Clem is far away and wishes to return but is unable. At that meeting, she also passes Qwill a message from Joy, his dead childhood sweetheart.
