What do butterflies symbolize to Celia in the novel, The Butterfly Girl?

For Celia, the butterflies are symbolic of a better time in her life, and they gather around her as a means of protection. Similar to the way Sarah uses Little Self, Celia uses the butterflies to help when she feels the need for comfort and protection.
