What does the mole symbolize in the novel, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse.

Despite his small size, the mole represents bravery and kindness in action. When the mole sees a fox caught in a snare, he chews through the wire holding the fox even though the fox tells the mole that he will kill him. The fox does not eat the mole after his act of kindness.
