The cave in Sepphoris where Ana both buries her scrolls and meets in secret with Jesus, symbolizes refuge. When Ana still lacks agency over her life and future, she uses the cave as a hiding place. It is the only location she can store her writings without fear of losing them. It is also the only place she can safely meet and talk with Jesus, as their connection and communion defies Jewish law. Ana is able to remove her scrolls from the cave at the same time she and Jesus make their relationship public.
