The sixth alethiometer symbolizes hope. In fighting against the tyrannical regime of the Magisterium, alethiometers are very precious tools, as they can help the user figure out the future. Prior to the sixth alethiometer's discovery by Malcolm, there are only two alethiometers in the possession of Oakley Street - one at Oxford that is shared by many and the one recently obtained from Bologna. The addition of this missing alethiometer represents the hope that Oakley Street, small and scrappy though it may be, may actually have a fighting chance against the regime.
