Urine is the ultimate symbol of disrespect in this novel. When Malcolm witnesses Gerard Bonneville's hyena daemon urinating on the path as he walks home, Malcolm is disgusted and horrified. The hyena daemon's actions ooze loathing, rage, and disrespect in a way that Malcolm did not encounter before.
