Taran from The Black Cauldron is the main character and is a assistant pig-keeper. He is raised by a wizard and is called upon by the prince to accompany him to seek the Black Cauldron and to watch his packs and horses while he goes inside the evil lair. Taran learns that real war/ battles are not glorious.
