Who are the Fair Folk in The Black Cauldron?

The Fair Folk is an all encompassing term that identifies the many dwarves, elves, fairies, and other such creatures that keep themselves isolated from the rest of the world. The Fair Folk have little interest in the world outside of their own, but they do assist Taran on his quest because of their immense dislike of Arawn.
