What is the theme in The Belle of Amherst by William Luce?

One main theme in the novel is that of loyalty to family, as well as resentment toward family. Through Emily, we learn of her intense love for her family, but we are also exposed to her resentment of some members in the family.... particularly her father and her sister, Lavinia.
