Much like London, the prison cells in the asylum also symbolize modern society, albeit in a slightly different way. While London represents the attitudes of modern society, the cell moreso represents its makeup. The pristine, white walls symbolize uniformity among citizens and its lack of notable features represents a lack of deviation or uniqueness. While MacIan and Turnbull feel ideologically stifled by the city of London, they are also literally and physically stifled by their prison cells.
