In Chapters 36-40, Candy's confusion over the sense that someone has been watching him is clearly upsetting. Candy is normally in control and doesn't quite know how to handle the situation. Though Candy has never had the ability to communicate psychically, he vows that if he senses the presence again he will try and discover the source. This is significant, foreshadowing some type of contact between Candy and Thomas.
