Who is Madame de Bellegarde from The American and what is their importance?

Madame de Bellegarde is Urbain's wife. At one point, she attempts to form an alliance with Newman. By the end of the novel, she does assist Newman in setting a meeting with the Bellegardes again. Urbain's wife is neither a help or a hindrance.
