Who is Sara Howard from The Alienist and what is their importance?

Sara Howard, raised by her father, is an educated, opinionated, and forward, young woman..... the opposite of what a Victorian woman is supposed to be. She takes a job as one of the only secretaries in the police department, but then insinuates herself into many of the investigations. She becomes involved in the case with Moore and Krietzler.
