The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

Irony is a term used to describe a situation that is deliberately contrary to what one was expecting. Why do you think it is ironic that Huckleberry Finn is the envy of all of the “respectable boys” in town?

Huck is the envy of the other boys because he is free to do what he wants. He doesn't have to attend school, he is unsupervised, and he can move about as he pleases. Although his freedom might be seen as attractive to the boys..... you have to remember that Huck is also on his own, fending for himself, and missing the love of a family.
