How does the author use foreshadowing in That Was Then, This Is Now?

One example of foreshadowing can be found in Mark's words; “if anybody ever hurt me like that I’d hate them for the rest of my life” (pg. 42), foreshadowing a deep divide between Mark and Byron later in the novel.
