Little Ease is a symbol and metaphor for torture. Little Ease is a dungeon located under the Chapel of St. John in the White Tower of the Tower of London. Little Ease is a four foot by four foot space, which disallows its prisoners to either stand or lie down. Buechner compared the constraints of Little Ease with his inability to break from his past.
