What is an example of irony in the book Tangerine by Edward Bloor?

in part of the beginnigng Erick says, " Coach Warner knows what i can do. He can send anybidy out there to pretend to kick a field goal. When i go out there it is for real"

Then later in the book the coach has him do a fake kick without telling him.
