How does the character change from the beginning to end of the novel

At the start of the novel, Paul is moving to a new home and new state. He is afraid of his brother, and although he knows Erik is a problem..... he never addresses it. Over the course of the novel, Paul grows stronger as an individual, he becomes comfortable in his own skin, and he makes friends. He also learns to take responsibility for his own actions, understanding that setbacks aren't forever.... they're merely temporary afflictions.
