There are a few reasons why Parks might have chosen to name her characters after known historical figures. The first reason being that people are readily familiar with the fact that Booth assassinated Lincoln, so you have a built in background knowledge. The other reason may be that in a previous play Parks had a 'lincoln thread=motif' running through it and she wanted to continue the motif in this play.
