In the story, imagination and literature symbolize the importance of the mind and storytelling in shaping one’s perception of life. Katagiri is never completely sure that Frog is real, and Frog makes several literary allusions throughout the story. These narrative elements seems to subtly evoke the idea that imagination and storytelling are integral to shaping perception.
