How does Dan Simmons use imagery in Summer of Night?

Simmons makes wide use of expected imagery: the sinister janitor, the corrupt, bullying justice of the peace, the redhead heartbreaker that all the boys want. He does not attempt to break new ground, but rather, creates an entertaining and successful example of an already-developed genre.
