The novel's main conflict revolves around Guy and Miriam's marriage..... a marriage long over, but one that is held onto by Miriam for appearances sake. Guy wants a divorce; Miriam is due to have another man's child..... Bruno takes it upon himself to solve Guy's problem by murdering Miriam..... and that's just the beginning.
