Who is Digby from Stranger in a Strange Land and what is their importance?

Digby is a bishop in the Church of the New Revelation. He attempts to Bigby convert Michael, but for some unknown reason, Michael blinks Digby off the Earth, effectively killing him. In death, Digby goes onto become Archangel Digby under Archangel Foster.
