In the second section, Silko widens the reader's understanding of the story, alerting the reader to the danger and separation involved in personal transformation. She also reinforces the fact that as caring as the bears (a metaphor for whatever creates change) are, the original home, family, tribe, life, is stronger and more important. This is where everyone returns, and the reader, the "you," and the child are left with an experience that will forever alter their view of the world.
