Moral responsibility is a person's responsibility to care about the welfare of those who cannot care for themselves. The characters within this novel are divided into two groups: those with moral responsibility, and those without. Bonnie Lamb is in the first category. Bonnie is sickened by her husband's refusal to help those harmed by the hurricane.
