The Language in the book becomes different for each character that is speaking. The author uses italics to notate when someone is speaking in a different language. There are times when the speech is more formal than others, but over all the language in the book is relaxed and easy to understand. There are characters that the reader can identify when they speak simply by their language, such as Addie, who speaks differently because she doesn't speak her native language. Many of the characters in the book use phrases that are much more formal when they are speaking to Kahlan, who is the Mother Confessor, or Richard, who is the new Lord Rahl.
