The tone of Anselm's writings is concentrated, abstract, enthusiastic, pious, zealous and often dry. Because Anselm is a philosopher and a priest, he is intently focused on defending Christian doctrine against all challengers. Thus, the prose is focused, proceeding steadily step by step from premise to premise and conclusion to conclusion.
