Unrequited love is the state of longing for another person but having the love non-returned. This theme is present in Spirit Bound on multiple levels. The primary unrequited love is a recurring idea in Spirit Bound. It involves Rose's sense that Dimitri will never love her again now that he has become a savage Strigoi and determined to murder her if he cannot turn her into a Strigoi as well. Dimitri ironically also feels this Unrequited Love, believing Rose is making a mistake in not becoming an undead and living by his side for eternity.
