The novel is divided into 21 chapters, each identified by number and title. The titles are interesting and provide humor as well as a hint of what is going to happen in that chapter. For example, Chapter 1 is titled “Evil Plumbing,” and Dash introduces himself as he begins to describe some of the more terrible aspects of living in space – the toilets. While the toilets – and the entire process – are not actually “evil,” Dash's descriptions of them make this an appropriate title.
