Professor Lyall is the Beta to Maccon. The Beta is rather like a valet and administant. Lyall helps Maccon through society and helps with the wolf pack that Maccon keeps under control in the city. Lyall is knowledgeable about everything going on as the mystery is unravelled. Lyall takes care of things so Maccon doesn't have two. Both men are busy with the politics and the ways of the society in order to have the supernaturals and the naturals able to live together in harmony. Professor Lyall sees the funny side of the things that happen between Maccon and Alexia. He likes his place in the pack and welcomes Alexia to it.
