What kinds of changes does Ramatoulaye face in CH 16?

In Chapter Sixteen, Ramatoulaye learns to carry on alone after Modou leaves. She learns to fix latches, call plumbers, master the finances, and pay the bills. She also comes to terms with not having a partner. Rama learns to go to the movies alone, a temporary escape from her distress. The theater also provides her an ever-deeper understanding of a larger world.
