Who is Kaira's Band (Tim, Duncan, Cotton, Billy Goat) from Small Steps and what is their importance?

This quartet of old-time rock musicians is, at first, dismissive of Kaira and her music, playing with her only to pay the bills. Eventually, however, as Kaira becomes more and more raw in her performances, and more and more passionate about her work, the band develops a new, albeit grudging respect for her.
