How does the author use foreshadowing in Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie?

In Chapter Eighteen, we learn that Mouth has missed a great deal of school.... something that Scott doesn't find unusual. The fact that Scott doesn't spend a great deal of time worrying about Mouth's absences, foreshadows that we will learn that Scott knows something we don't.
