What is the setting of Six Plays by Lillian Hellman?

Hellman's, Watch on the Rhine, was written and produced in the early 1940s, at which point America was not yet involved in World War II but was nonetheless aware of the Nazi/Fascist march to power. The resistance to that march is a main theme in the play.
