How does self-realization propel Siddhartha to follow the path of experience rather than the path of an established teacher on his journey to spiritual enlightenment?

Siddhartha finds that he can only learn so much from teachers. He has to experience reality to really become enlightened. He has to experience desire, longing, pain.....in order to put his knowledge into practice.
