Bruno 'Lefty' Bicek is a young Polish boy. Over the course of the story, Bruno finds himself the prime suspect of a murder. He is a member of the American Social and Athletic Club, which is the name of a local Chicago gang. Lefty is also a small time criminal, as well as a left-handed batter for the baseball team. Lefty is originally arrested for robbing a local Polish man at gunpoint. Over the course of the interview, it is revealed that the man has died of a gunshot wound. Lefty's character seems to symbolize wasted youth in American gangs, both past and present.
