How does the author use foreshadowing in Sharpe's Siege: Richard Sharpe and the Winter Campaign, 1814?

In Chapter Fourteen, Sharpe and Killick's conversation foreshadows another conversation that will take place later in the novel. The two men, who are technically enemies, see eye-to-eye and develop a genuine if rudimentary friendship that will end up serving them both well indeed.
