The language of the novel tends to be somewhat stiff and formal. The sentences are constructed in a slightly antiquated style such as is common in the time period during which the story is set. Once the reader becomes accustomed to the style of the writing, it does not hinder comprehension of the novel. The language adds a depth to the novel that makes the world in which the novel is set more believable through the language used by the narrating characters throughout Sexing the Cherry.
