Cameahwait was the brother of Sacajawea. When the Lewis and Clark Expedition returned to the area of Sacajawea's birth, they discover that Cameahwait is the chief of the Shoshone Indians. Cameahwait first meets Meriwether Lewis traveling in advance of the remainder of the expedition—the meeting is formal and not particularly cordial.
