Arina, the daughter of Maryushka and the Cossack Andrei Karpenko, is from the original village of Russka. At the age of twenty-five, she marries a carpenter and icon painter named Daniel, who'd once been a Cossack and friend of her father. Arina and Daniel are both followers of Raskolniki.
