Mikhail Bakunin was born to a noble family like so many other Russian radicals, and he became one of the best-known revolutionaries in Europe, espousing what became known as collectivist anarchism. Bakunin was a mesmerizing speaker, who could captivate a room with his oratory. According to Berlin, however, Bakunin lacked the intellectual gifts of Herzen and was merely an agitator. He was someone who enjoyed pushing ideas to their limits out of a kind of recklessness and love of action. Bakunin's actions eventually caused him to lose his title, before he was captured and sent to Siberia. He escaped from Siberia and ended up in London.
