Personal Identity is another theme in the book. As do many adolescents, Augusten struggles with his personal identity. First, he struggles to become someone of significance. He dreams of fame and fortune as a way to escape his painful life. He wants attention that he does not receive from his parents. He envisions cameras catching his every move.
