In Chapter Eighteen, Chappie's willingness to assist the white boy, and his hesitation at abandoning him indicates that he does not completely identify with the struggle of his new peers..... that he continues to view himself as an outsider to the Rastafarian culture. This foreshadows his eventual fate, when he will detach himself from the Rastas and fight his own battles.
