Romeo and Juliet is their youth and impetuousness play a large part in their own deaths, as do a number of other characters. The couple, the friar, Juliet's parents..... they all play a part in the action, but likely, it is Romeo and Juliet who rush toward their tragic ends without thought.

Juliet concocts a plan with Friar Lawrence, but neither think it through completely. The Friar doesn't allow for mistakes or interruption in communication, Romeo never gets the message intended for him, and the Friar isn't around to stop Romeo or even check on Juliet after she takes the poison and is interred.
