How does fate play a part in Romeo and Juliet?

From the beginning the audience is aware of the ending of the play, and yet, as it unfolds there is a hope that something will happen to derail that destiny. If Friar Lawrence hadn't been delayed in letting Juliet know about Romeo's fake death, then Juliet wouldn't have died. Things lined up and played out just as destined from the beginning.
