Explain what sonny means by his parents tensions?

Although generally appearing indifferent, or even unsupportive, toward his son Sonny, Homer Sr. often looks the other way and allows access to materials which are essential for the rocket boys to build their rockets. He puts pressure on Homer to work at the mine.
