The main conflict in the novel, Roadwork, revolves around the government order that requires the Dawes family to leave their home, as the government extension for the highway runs straight through it. Unfortunately, the government has the right to expropriate your home or business or land for purposes of their own providing they pay you a fair market value...... Bart and Mary don't believe that it what they've been offered. In addition.... for Bart and Mary, their home is priceless.
