Feist structure this story in a way that we understand his characters are involved in the same conflict..... but there are times when we learn something about one set of characters while we are reading about a different set. He uses this technique to foreshadow what will happen to one character through the story of the another. Even when we feel sure about what is going to happen with a group of characters, Feist leaves us unsure of how the different characters will act when actually faced with their choices.
