Towards the end of her story, Mason uses the imagery of an injured rabbit on the side of the road. The rabbit is hopping in place..... its forelegs working frantically working, all while the injury it sustained on its back end prohibits it from moving off the road. Like Mary, the rabbit is stuck in one place, unable to move forward toward her future.
