The pond is a metaphor for celebration and renewal. Redwall Abbey's source of drinking water and fresh fish, the Pond appears to be located adjacent to the wall, for protagonist Matthias and King Bull Sparra plunge into it after fighting on the roof. Early and late in the novel, the Pond is fished to provide for gala celebrations in the Abbey.
